"Fridge of Family & Friends"

I've enjoyed having this whole week off for winter break!

I've slept in, watched day time t.v. (The View and Rachel Ray), did some shopping, and started to clean and organized the house.

So, I decided to do some updating around the house and I've added more pictures to our "Fridge of Family and Friends". My goal is to someday reach the bottom. So, when there's another party or family get together, I'll be there snapping some pictures!!

Come on over and check it out!! (YOU may be on there somewhere.)

I was on the GOOD List!

Merry Christmas!

This Christmas was nice and laid back for Corey and me. We hosted Christmas Eve at our new house for my Dad, Kathy, Grandma L., my sisters and Brian. It was very low key and that's what made it so much fun. Since we don't have a huge dinning room table we all ate in the living room on t.v. trays. How memorable!! (My dad even joked about bringing over some plastic to lay over our new furniture so no one would spill on it.) We watched our favorite movie of all time...Goonies. Yes, it's not a Christmas movie, but it's still the best. I was overwhelmed with receiving such nice gifts...cash is always a favorite! Good times were had by all.
Thanks everyone for such a great Christmas Eve!!

Christmas Day morning was spent opening gifts between the two of us. We were so excited to be celebrating Christmas together in our new house. Corey was surprised and confused when he was opening boxes of his own shirts for Christmas. I surprised him with a tool chest for Christmas. I didn't want him to guess it so I hid "fake" gifts under the tree for him to open. I think of his gift as a good one for the both of us. He gets something he's wanted for a long time and in return the garage will get organized!! Corey surprised me with my red, Kitchen Aid Mixer...watch out Aimee, it's a bake off!!!! (Hey let's start a cookie making tradition!) I'm excited to use my Timbuktu bag for my teaching materials. I won't list everything...how tacky, but needless to say, my husband spoiled me this year.

(I forgot the camera...so no pictures of Christmas Day. :( )

We headed over to my Grandpa and Grandma's for some lunch. Their new house was decorated so beautifully and we all managed to fit in new the house!! (Almost fifty of us!!) It was fun to sit and chat with everyone. Grandpa and Grandma received a family scrapbook made by my aunt Rhonda. They loved it so much, that they had one made for each of their kids. It was fun looking at all of the pictures. It started with pictures of my grandparents in their "dating" years, to the family tree, to a page made for each of their eight children and 21 grandchildren. What a wonderful gift! Thank you grandpa and grandma for the gift certificate to Axel's Bon Fire...Corey and I can't wait for a date night.

Our "last stop" was at the Brower's. The two of us were spoiled again. We were definitely on the good list this year!!! We both got our "dream" presents. Corey's was a Festool and mine, a red seat belt bag purse! Thanks mom and dad. Corey and I ended up staying for dinner...Mmmmmm, leftover ham sandwiches. We stayed late watching American Chopper on the big screen. (We still don't have cable at our house, so we were mesmerized by all of the good channels at the Brower's.)

We will have another Christmas celebration with my mom at her house on the 30th. Thanks for the early gift mom...we love our new nativity set!

Thank you to everyone for making this Christmas a great one. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful life!!

VACATION!!

Hurrah!!!

Today is my first day of vacation! I don't have to go back to school until January 2nd. I can finally relax. I have so much that I want to do. Corey told me to make a list of things I want to get done over break so here I go...

*First, I need to write out some thank yous to all of my students and their families for the wonderful gifts. The floor of my craft room is covered with bags, tissue and some interesting gifts. :) I will definatly use all of the gift cards. I gathered up all of my Barnes and Noble gift cards and made a list of books that I would love to get. For One More Day by Mitch Albom, Guardian, Three Weeks with My Brother, Dear John, and The Rescue, all by Nicholas Sparks.

*Of course there's always cleaning...I do this everytime I'm bored. But being bored sometimes is what I will love during my vacation. I need it.

*I want to reorganize my Wizard of Oz craft room. I bought a Cricut machine, from Michaels, for my cardmaking. It's AWESOME! I look forward to using it and creating some unique cards.

*I'll need to get myself prepared for the "new year", so I know one time this week I'll be spending my time in my classroom. I have a January newsletter and school reminders to type up, bulletin boards and a calendar to change, and get paper work ready for two new children that will start when I get back.

*I would love to take one day and sit and watch movies. I'm hoping for a snow day.

*Corey and I hope to have one day off together. He's slowing down at work so there's a chance. We'd love to take a day, in the middle of the week, and drive!!! We find some interesting things to do when we just drive to a new place.

*Having all this time off will be a good way for me to update my Blog.

*I want to visit my sister, Stefanie, and check out her daycare set up and see all of her kids.

*I'll have to shop of course, how else will I use up those gift cards I have!

*I need to start looking for new teaching positions opening for next fall. I need to find something with good benefits. Thank goodness for the internet...it helps. I suppose I better update my resume too.

*I would love to take this vacation time to finally get going on my wedding scrapbook. I have all of the pieces / pictures, it's just taken me awhile to get started.

I know that there's more I want to do, but I'm looking at my list hoping that I can get some of this done. Good luck to me. Happy Vacation!

The True Meaning of Christmas

I sit here reflecting on my life and the emotions I've gone through this past month. And what a lot of emotion it's been! I realized that sometimes even I forget the true meaning of Christmas. So...Searching the internet I came across a wonderful web site and I thought I'd share it.

12 Ways to Remember the True Meaning of Christmas
Keep the true meaning of Christmas alive in your home.

Amid the bustle and the buying, the eats and the treats, take time to rekindle the real spirit of the season.
1. Keep a candle burning. The constantly burning flame, holding back the darkness, is a potent symbol of life in the heart of winter. On the first Sunday of Advent (the period beginning four Sundays before Christmas), some Christians carry home a taper, lit from their church's Advent candle, and keep it burning until Christmas Day using a series of candles. Keep your Christmas flame on the table during family meals. You might also like to follow the tradition of lighting three more candles -- one for each week of Advent.
2. Support a worthy cause.Make a donation in someone's name to an organization you know he or she would like to support, such as the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation or the Christian Children's Fund.
3. Write a letter to your past.Is there someone you wish you'd thanked for a kindness you've remembered all your life? An old friend with whom you've quarreled and would like to be reconciled? Someone you've never been able to tell "I love you"? Now is the ideal time to grab pen and paper and write a note to tell them so.
4. Give a gift that's really needed.Often we buy people presents just for the sake of buying them something. But there are many things the people on your list would love that aren't store-bought. That's why Jan Gonder, a Reader's Digest reader from Los Angeles, came up with the idea of giving coupons redeemable for some of her time and talents. Last year, she gave coupons for teaching calligraphy and needlepoint, even tutoring for the SAT exams. The idea is to match the service with the person's need. As Gonder explains, "Children might appreciate coupons relieving them of chores, teens with driver's licenses a chance at the family car, or new brides a promise to help write thank-you notes."
5. Plant a real Christmas tree.A lovely way to remember this Christmas, this could also make a great last-minute gift for a nature-loving friend. For just $10 and a phone call (or the click of a mouse), you can help American Forests, the nation's oldest nonprofit citizen conservation organization, plant ten trees in a threatened forest ecosystem. The organization's Global ReLeaf program plants trees across the United States in areas that have been damaged or destroyed by natural (or human-made) disasters. The program has planted over 13 million trees since 1990 in 45 states, with a goal of planting 20 million trees by the end of the year 2000. If you plant ten or more trees, American Forests will send a personalized certificate to you or the person of your choice. Call American Forests at 800-873-5323.
6. Create a new family holiday. If it's traditional to spend Christmas Eve with all your husband's relatives and Christmas Day with yours, you may feel you miss out celebrating the holiday at your house with just your immediate family. Lynne Blalock, from Memphis, reports that she and her children never seemed to have any private time to enjoy Christmas together. So she took matters into her own hands and invented a new family holiday. "We created Christmas Adam on December 23 -- because Adam came before Eve," says Blalock. That's the day when they open presents and have a special meal just for the immediate family. And though Blalock says her life is less hectic now, "Christmas Adam is still a tradition."
7. Create a Christmas gift book.Buy a beautiful blank journal to record the gifts you and your family receive as well as those you give. This book will come in handy when it's time to write thank-you notes, and in subsequent years, it will help you avoid giving the same gift to a friend or family member twice. It also serves as a lovely record of the thoughtfulness of others -- and yourself.
8. Trim the tree stress-free.Give each family member his own part of the tree to decorate. "Using beautiful red ribbon, divide the tree into sections so that everyone gets his own place to work," she suggests. "This will eliminate the familiar 'Hey! I was going to put something there! That was my spot! I quit!'"
9. Eat by tree light. After the tree is decorated, have a meal around it. Turn off all the lights except for those on the tree, and admire its beauty. This is an especially good idea after a stressful afternoon spent Christmas shopping at the mall. That's one reason why Carolyn A. Clarke, a Reader's Digest reader and mother from Manassas, VA., has made eating around the tree a family tradition. "Young kids enjoy tree lights," she says, "and they seem to have a calming effect on them."
10. Keep Christmas Eve simple.Instead of slaving to prepare a fantastic spread on Christmas Eve as well as Christmas Day, suggest a simple meal, such as pizza, or let guests make their own sandwiches from a selection of fillings. That way, you'll have more time to relax and enjoy each other's company -- which is what Christmas is all about.
11. Set an extra place at Christmas dinner. Each year, there are many people without families who spend the holiday alone. If you know someone like that, ask him to join you at your table. Cooking for an extra person won't take much more effort, but it will make all the difference to him.
12. Go to church.Whatever your religious practice throughout the year, Christmas is a time to wake up our spiritual selves. Many find that the familiar carols and readings stir an understanding of God that proves elusive at other times of the year. This Christmas, remember the real reason for the festival -- the birth of Jesus Christ.

Memorial

In Loving Memory of
Becky Zweber
(My aunt)

Passed on December 4, 2006, age 50

If tears could build a stairway,
And memories were a lane.
We would walk right up to heaven,
To bring you home again.

Your heart of gold stopped beating
Your shining smile at rest
God broke our hearts to prove
He only takes the best.

No farewell words were spoken,
No time to say good-bye.
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knows why.

Our hearts still ache in sadness,
And secret tears still flow.
What it meant to lose you,
No one will ever know.

Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same,
But God will call us one by one
And the chain will link again.
